STORY TELLING
ELEPHANT AND FRIENDS
A lone elephant walked through the forest, looking for friends. She soon saw a monkey and proceeded to ask, ‘Can we be friends, monkey?’
The monkey quickly replied, ‘You are big and can’t swing on trees like I do, so I cannot be your friend.’
Defeated, the elephant continued to search when it stumbled across a rabbit. She proceeded to ask him, ‘Can we be friends, rabbit?’
The rabbit looked at the elephant and replied, “You are too big to fit inside my burrow. You cannot be my friend.”
Then, the elephant continued until she met a frog. She asked, “Will you be my friend, frog?”
The frog replied, “You are too big and heavy; you cannot jump like me. I am sorry, but you can’t be my friend.”
The elephant continued to ask the animals she met on her way, but always received the same reply. The following day, the elephant saw all the forest animals run in fear. She stopped a bear to ask what was happening and was told the tiger was attacking all the small animals.
The elephant wanted to save the other animals, so she went to the tiger and said, “Please, sir, leave my friends alone. Do not eat them.”
The tiger didn’t listen. He merely told the elephant to mind her own business.
Seeing no other way, the elephant kicked the tiger and scared him away. Upon hearing of the brave tale, the other animals agreed, “You are just the right size to be our friend.”
Moral : Friends come in every shape and size.

SPECIAL INTRODUCTION
SOURAV GANGULY
[The Prince of Kolkata]
Sourav Chandidas Ganguly was born on 8 July 1972 in Kolkata. He is a retired Indian cricketer and former captain of the Indian national team. Sourav is one of India’s most successful cricket captains. He was honored by the Padma Shri award by former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
He played for the country only after performing well in domestic tournaments such as Ranjit and Duleep trophies. Sourav made his Test debut against England in the Second Test at Lords Cricket ground in London. He made his spot in the Indian team after scoring 131 runs in this match.
In 1998, during Sahara Cup, he won four Man of the Match awards. In this tournament, while playing against Pakistan he took 5 wickets by giving only 16 runs in his 10 overs. As a player, he was also a part of the Indian team in the 1999 World Cup played in England. During the match against Sri Lanka, he scored 183 from 158 balls, by smashing 17 fours and 7 sixes. It became the second-highest score in World Cup history and the highest by an Indian in that tournament.
In the year 2000, Sourav became the Captain of the Indian cricket team. He began his journey well, leading India to a series victory over South Africa. He led India into the 2003 World Cup final. Unfortunately, India was defeated by Australia. In the following year due to poor individual performance, he was dropped from the team. He returned to the National team in 2006 and made successful batting displays. He was again selected for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
In 2008, in the Indian Premier League, Ganguly played as captain for the Kolkata Night Riders team. In the same year, after a home Test series against Australia, he announced his retirement.
This left-handed batsman and the right-arm medium-pace bowler was a productive one-day international cricketer. He scored over 11,000 ODI runs. He is one of the most successful Indian Test captains, winning 21 test matches out of 49. Sourav as a fighting captain is known for developing the careers of many young cricketers who played under him. He changed the Indian team into a forceful and strong unit that we see today. In every sense, he is rightly called “Prince of Kolkata’
