STORY TELLING
THE VILLAGER AND THE SPECTACLES
There was a villager. He was illiterate. He did not know how to read and write. He often saw people wearing spectacles for reading books or papers. He thought, "If have spectacles, I can also read like these people. I must go to town and buy a pair of spectacles for myself." So one day he went to a town. He entered a spectacles shop He asked the shopkeeper for a pair of spectacles for reading. The shopkeeper gave him various pairs of spectacles and a book. The villager tried all the spectacles one by one. But he could not read anything. He told the shopkeeper that all those spectacles were useless for him. The shopkeeper gave him a doubtful look. Then he looked at the book. It was upside down! The shopkeeper said, "Perhaps you don't know how to read."
The villager said, "No, I don't. I want to buy spectacles so that I can read like others. But I can't read with any of these spectacles." The shopkeeper controlled his laughter with great difficulty when he learnt the real problem of his illiterate customer.
He explained to the villager, "My dear friend, you are very ignorant. Spectacles don't help to read or write. They only help you to see better. First of all you must learn to read and write."
Moral : Ignorance is blindness.

SPECIAL INTRODUCTION
JATINDRA NATH DAS
(Indian Independence Activist)
[27 October 1904 - 13 September 1929]
Jatindra Nath Das Who Made Bombs For Bhagat Singh And Fasted For 63 Days In Jail
India got independence after a long struggle. Names like Bhagat Singh, Azad, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose emerged as its heroes and were recorded in the pages of history. At the same time, some names got lost somewhere in the darkness of oblivion. Far from the stories of his contribution to the freedom struggle, many people do not even know his name.
In the series 'Azadi Ke Gumnaam Sipahi', the story of the great freedom fighter Jatindra Nath Das, who made bombs for Bhagat Singh and fasted for 63 days in jail. He did not bow down to British rule, and accepted to die.
Jatindranath Das was born on 27 October 1904 in Calcutta. When Das was 9 years old, his mother Suhasini Devi said goodbye to this world. Jatindra was raised by his father. During his studies, Gandhi started the non-cooperation movement and Jatindra also jumped into the freedom struggle for which the British government put him in jail.
he came in contact with many other revolutionaries. During that time, he learned to make bombs. Further, in 1925, he was arrested and sent to jail for the Kakori incident. There he opposed the inhuman treatment being meted out to the prisoner revolutionaries.
He sat on a hunger strike against the jail administration. After sitting on fast for 20 days, the jail superintendent had to bow down to them. Seeing their growing influence, he apologized to them and he was released from jail.
According to historians, Jatindra Nath Das was one of the close friends of great revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh. He also had a lot of closeness with Subhash Chandra Bose. In 1928, Jatindra worked with Netaji to strengthen the party while in the Congress in Kolkata.
Bhagat Singh was planning to destabilize British rule. He wanted to make himself heard to the deaf government by throwing bombs in the assembly, for this he chose Jatindranath Das who was invited to Agra to make bombs. Accepting the call of Bhagat, Jatindra came from Kolkata to Agra. The bomb made by him was used by Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt in the assembly bomb case of 1929. On 14 June 1929, Jatindra was arrested and put in Lahore jail. He once expressed his displeasure against the inhuman treatment of the prisoners in the jail.
According to reports, his fast began on 13 July 1929. During the fast, the jail administration tried a lot to convince him, but he stood firm. He was also forced to break his fast but the British government could not break his fast.
According to historians, the jail authorities forcefully got a tube inserted in his nose and tried to feed him milk with the same tube. But Jatindra wanted to free himself with one stroke due to which milk found its way into his respiratory tract. His condition kept getting worse. He started having trouble breathing. Jatindranath Das did not bow down to the British government. He stood firm on his demands.
Lahore was in mourning on 13 September 1929. There was silence in the Central Jail. A 25-year-old youth admitted to dying but did not bow down. After 63 days of fasting, revolutionary Jatindranath Das had left this fake world for an abode above.
Jatindra Nath Das may not be with us today, but his sacrifice cannot be forgotten in history. He cannot be left anonymously even for a few pages of the book.
