1840 : Vinayak Kondadev Oak, He started a magazine 'Balbodh' for children and published biographies, poems, essays, articles on scientific subjects etc. Wrote and laid the foundation of Marathi children's literature. 1894 : Avtar Meher Baba - Spiritual Guru, Maunvrat Saint, observed Maunvrat for 44 consecutive years. (Died : 31 January 1969)

1981 : Birth of Indian actor Anuj Sahni.

1964 : Shanta Apte - film actress. (Kunku, Duniya Na Mane, Amrut Manthan etc.) (Born : 1916)

1978 : Dr. P. L. Vaidya - Orientalist. (Born : 29 June 1891)

STORY TELLING

THE SPEAKING CAVE

One day a lion was searching for food. He was very old and weak and unable to catch his preys by chasing them. Suddenly the lion saw a cave on his way and upon inspecting inside he found it to be empty.

That gave the lion an idea and he thought to himself, “ If I stay here, the owner of the cave is bound to return and that’s when I’ll jump upon it and make it my meal.”

He waited patiently till the night fell and the jackal who actually lived in the cave came back. Jackal saw the footprints of the lion and he got suspicious. Jackal decided to trick the lion and started asking cave why the cave was not speaking to him today.

Lion thought that may be cave actually does speak to Jackal every night and decided to call him in himself today. On hearing lion’s voice, Jackal got certain that lion is hiding inside and he ran away from the place to save his life.

Moral : We should always be alert and take care of the things around us.

SPECIAL INTRODUCTION

VISHNU VAMAN SHIRWADKAR

27 February 1912-10 March 1999

Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar was the leading poet, writer, playwright and critic in Marathi language. He wrote the pseudonym of Kusumagraja. They are considered to be important writers in Marathi who are spiritually and socially aware. They describe the bearded jewel of the temple of Saraswati. V. After Khandekar, he was the second literary recipient of Gyanpith award in Marathi literature. His Birthday is celebrated as 'Marathi language day'.

Kusumagraj was born on 27th February in Pune in the year 1212. His original name was Gajanan Ranganath Shirwarkar. Because of his adoption by his uncle Waman Shirwadkar, his name has been changed to Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar. He completed his education at Nashik. After receiving his Bachelor of Degree, he worked for a short time after writing a script in film business, playing a small role in the film. After this he worked as editor of various newspapers, newspapers, autonomous, Prabhat, Navyug, archer, etc. He was involved in the Satyagraha of the Kalaram temple entrance in 1932. In 1933, he established the 'Dhruv Mandal'. In many social movements, participated in Satyagrahas. In the coming days, he also helped the tribal students of Nashik district to pursue education.

Kusumagraj criticized his writing on social injustice and inequality. He received the award for the opinion that "Literary should consider social commitment." He also wrote many plays along with poems. Apart from this, he also handled novels, stories, short stories, and so on.

He passed away on March 10, 1999.
