STORY TELLING

THE WIND AND THE SUN

Once the Wind and the Sun had an argument. "I am stronger than you," said the Wind. "No, you are not," said the Sun. Just at that moment they saw a traveler walking across the road. He was wrapped in a shawl. The Sun and the Wind agreed that whoever could separate the traveller from his shawl was stronger.

The Wind took the first turn. He blew with all his might to tear the traveller's shawl from his shoulders. But the harder he blew, the tighter the traveller gripped the shawl to his body. The struggle went on till the Wind's turn was over.

Now it was the Sun's turn. The Sun smiled warmly. The traveller felt the warmth of the smiling Sun. Soon he let the shawl fall open. The Sun's smile grew warmer and warmer... hotter and hotter. Now the traveller no longer needed his shawl. He took it off and dropped it on the ground. The Sun was declared stronger than the Wind.

Moral : Brute force can't achieve what a gentle smile can.

SPECIAL INTRODUCTION ON SHAHEED DIWAS

BHAGAT SINGH, SUKHDEV THAPAR, AND SHIVARAM RAJGURU

The brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and welfare of the nation.

[On 23rd March 1931, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Shivram Rajguru were hanged in Lahore Jail at 7:30 PM. This revolutionary went to the gallows smiling for the country. Commemoration of martyrs.]

Shaheed Diwas is celebrated on 23rd March every year in India to honor the supreme sacrifice made by three great Indian freedom fighters - Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru. Among these three, Bhagat Singh remains the most prominent figure, and his contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is unparalleled. He was born on 28th September 1907 in a small village called Banga in Punjab.

Bhagat Singh was an Indian socialist revolutionary who became an influential figure in the Indian independence movement. He is considered one of the most charismatic and fearless revolutionaries of his time, who inspired the youth of the nation to fight for their rights and freedom. In this blog titled "Shaheed Diwas," we will delve deeper into the significance of this day and the life and contributions of Bhagat Singh.

The history of Shaheed Diwas goes back to the pre-independence era of India when the country was struggling for freedom from British colonial rule. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were three young revolutionaries who were involved in a conspiracy to assassinate a British police officer, John Saunders, in Lahore in 1928.

Their aim was to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, a freedom fighter who had died after being brutally beaten by the police during a protest against the Simon Commission. However, the plan did not go as expected, and instead, another police officer, J. P. Saunders, was mistakenly shot and killed.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy. They were tried in a special court, and despite their defense, they were found guilty and sentenced to death.

On 23rd March 1931, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were hanged to death in Lahore Central Jail. The British government hoped that their execution would send a message to other revolutionaries and quell the Indian independence movement, but it had the opposite effect. The martyrdom of these young freedom fighters galvanized the nation and inspired many others to join the struggle for independence.

Today, Shaheed Diwas is celebrated on 23rd March every year to honor the supreme sacrifice made by these three great Indian freedom fighters. The day is marked by various events and programs across the country, including speeches, rallies, and cultural programs. The significance of this day and the lives of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru continue to inspire generations of Indians to fight for their rights and freedom.
