The great revolutionary and freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh' was born in a Sikh Jat family of Punjab's Bangla Village. His father was Kishan Chand and mother was Vidyawati. His uncle, Sardar Ajit Singh was a great freedom fighter who established Indian Patriot's Association. Thus, patriotism was in his blood. He was associated with many revolutionary organizations and played a key role in the Indian Nationalist Movement. He is often called as "Shaheed Bhagat Singh" as the supporters and followers of this legendary accorded him the title of "Shaheed" meaning "Martyr" after he sacrificed his life for the nation. He became a prominent leader of the "Hindustan Social republican Association" in the year 1928.

He was the folk hero of the Indian Independence movement and one of the most influential revolutionary socialist. Bhagat Singh was a prominent freedom fighter and an inspirational icon in the Indian freedom struggle. He gave a new direction to the National Movement against the British rule.

His father and uncle Ajit Singh were also active freedom fighters. Hence, his family atmosphere had a great effect on the mind of young Bhagat Singh and patriotism flowed in his veins from his childhood.

Bhagat Singh's Early life :

Bhagat Singh was greatly attracted towards Socialism because of he wanted to transform the Indian Society. Before the independence, he had chosen the path for a political alternative which most revolutionaries didn't think of. Bhagat had a clear vision and his dedication was also clear of the purpose in the accomplishment of his goals.

When Bhagat Singh was studying at the local D.A.V. School in Lahore in 1916 and was just nine years old, he met some well-known freedom fighters and political leaders such as Lala Lajpat Rai and Ras Bihari Bose. They greatly inspired this young boy Bhagat Singh. After some years, he got immensely disturbed when the Jalianwala Bagh massacre occurred in 1919. In this massacre, many innocent people were killed brutally by a British general at Jalianwala Bagh where was a public meeting was going on. Next day, he visited the place and took some soil from it and kept as a souvenir. He decided to take the revenge from the British government and push them all out of the country.

Bhagat Singh's struggle for freedom of India :

In 1925, Bhagat Singh initiated the militant youth organization that was called Naujawan Bharat Sabha. It was a more public face of Hindu Republican Association. It comprised members of Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities. After this tragedy of Jalianwala Bagh massacre, the death of Lala Lajpat Ray affected Bhagat Singh drastically and the boy could not bear the cruelty of the British any longer. He decided to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai's death. Firstly he decided to kill the British officials, Saunders. He murdered them on 17th December 1928. He threw bombs in the Central Assembly Hall during their assembly session on 8th April 1929. He gave a slogan also 'Inquilab Zindabad' and it made a great impact on the youth of India during the freedom movement. For these activities, he was arrested by the British government. In jail, he went on the hunger strike to protest the inhumane treatment of fellow-political prisoners by the jail authorities. The Naujawan Bharat Sabha was also banned by the British government.

Death of Bhagat Singh :

The truly revolutionary and young hero of India 'Bhagat Singh' was hanged along with two other freedom strugglers Sukhdev and Rajguru a day before the appointed day on March 23rd, 1931. The great boy Bhagat Singh was just of 23 years at that time. He has rightfully been given the title of Shaheed-e-Azam ie King of Martyrs. His death proved to be an inspiration for several Indians to join the struggle for freedom and his ideologies remained alive and continued to drive people.

Conclusion :

The prominent freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was really a true patriot of the nation. Bhagat Singh did not only fight for the freedom of the country but he had no qualms giving away his life in the event. The people those who believed in the Gandhian ideology felt that the young revolutionary was too aggressive and radical and hurt the freedom quest whereas, on the other hand, his followers considered him a martyr. The inspirational icon is still remembered by the people of India.
